We ordered it as a meal replacement for lunch, as my wife and I are busy educators who rarely have time for a complete meal during the meal. She didn't like the taste - which meant more for me! Mixes easy in shaker bottle, tastes great to me and fills me up perfectly until the evening meal. Couldn't be easier, and I know I am getting exactly what my body needs.
Vital House - Balance
I bought Vital House as an alternative to Soylent that was vegan and shipped to Canada.
Here's my first impression:
Pros: Taste is decent, lots of fiber, fills me up
Cons: Texture is bad, difficult to mix, bags are small
Overall I'm enjoying it but I wish they would work on the texture, it's very grainy and doesn't mix well. I'd also like it if they sold it in larger portions so that it didn't require as much packaging. However, I still like it and will probably get it again, and it really does make me feel full which Soylent never did.
Background: I've been using powdered meal as my primary food source for well over 2 years at this point and I've tried numerous brands, if it ships to Canada I've probably tried it.
Taste: My favourite so far is the vanilla. It's mildly sweet, not overwhelming like the earlier iterations of the powder so it's suitable for daily consumption. When you use meal replacement as your primary food source, a taste that's too strong will very easily burn out your taste-buds. Imagine eating chocolate every single day, very quickly chocolate would become your least favourite food. So a mild taste is just right when it comes to the vanilla flavour.
Digestibility: You would want to take it easy and drink it slowly with this one since it is quite viscous.
Mixability: It's pretty good. Quite similar to the earlier iterations of the meal replacement powders from now-defunct companies. Though it would be best if you mix it with a mixer and drink the meal right away. If you leave the drink overnight in the fridge, it essentially turns into a thick sludge that has the consistency of baby food.
Fulfillment was longer than I expected and took a couple days, even my original order.
Taste-wise, it's like a Vietnamese 3 color bean dessert. There's also a very distinct bean smell with the powder itself that may be a put-off if you're not used to the smell. It's probably best consumed after settling in the fridge for at least an hour, for it to thicken. My brother particularly likes the thickness and beany taste while I'm a bit more indifferent. I would actually prefer a finer powder, and therefore smoother consistency, like with Soylent v1.4 and above.
Being Canadian, it's nice that this is a Canadian company and one of the cheaper options available to us. Not to mention that it's vegan.
Just what I was looking for. I never have to worry about managing nutrition around it, the taste isn't really special, but it's nice. The consistency is good, thicker than soya milk or flour but thinner than porridge and easily drinkable. It's the right amount filling for usual meal timings and easy on the stomach, and a big edge over the old Biolent formula, you just add water, give a good shake, and you're ready. You can wait a bit if you like, but it doesn't make much difference as it's all fine enough.
I have tried both Balance and Keto mixes both in chocolate flavour. I get meal replacement drinks because I don't like cooking and I have food allergies so I need things I can eat on the go quite often. I'm pleased to have found a Canadian made product and supplier that has a few options.
Flavour is good but I'll be the first to admit I'm not that picky. It's clear that this brand uses pea protein as the finishing taste is quite distinct. I also find I have to shake the keto ones A TON and that the little fat nodules don't ever really dissolve but as I said this doesn't really bother me. IT also took longer than I expected to ship and arrive, it showed up about two weeks after I placed my order.
If you want a silky smooth texture try a blender or don't like pea protein be warned but if you want good chocolate flavour, Canadian products and meals replaced: this stuff is great.
I love being able to make a quick meal or just have some to help keep up on my vitamins and minerals.
Taste is great, holds me great with regards to feeling full, be aware that there is a bit of a texture!
Love these shakes they taste great mixed in plant-based milks.
I appreciate the value you get from just one bag! However, two things that I didn't like were: the serving size says three scoops but no scoops came with the bag. A scoop amount is written by weight, not volume, which is not helpful when picking out your own proper sized scoop. Second, I don't enjoy the berry taste in my vanilla flavoured powder. I would prefer a plain, unflavored powder more. Despite those things I found the drink mostly enjoyable and very convenient.
Vital House - Balance
Look the price point is always great, but the taste seems significantly different from the last order I got. Albeit that order was Biolent, I had assumed it would be very close in flavour profile.
I like it. Tastes good and mixes well in my shaker. Not many large clumps and goes down my throat very well. Just need a non sucralose version.
I bought the chocolate flavour and was expecting the usual off-tasting chocolate that's usually involved with these sorts of things, but I actually can't taste the chocolate at all. All I can taste is coconut, maybe a bit of oatmeal.
All in all the flavour isn't bad (I'm currently adding cocoa powder to offset the coconut taste a bit), it's the right amount of sweet, and the texture isn't too bad either. It's a little gritty but otherwise it's like drinking a thick shake.
A big bonus for me is that this does not upset my stomach when I drink it, which is normally a huge problem for me when I eat or drink most foods
I used to buy Biolent, but now that they've switched to Vital House, I decided to give the Chocolate Balanced Meal a try and I love it! At first I bought a single bag to try it, but as soon as I was done with the bag I subscribed to get 3 bags per month. It's 10 servings per bag and most days I eat at least one.
The texture isn't totally smooth, but it mixes well with a Blender Bottle and the texture doesn't bother me, unlike some other meal replacements I've tried, and it's much better than Biolent was. The chocolate taste doesn't 100% taste like chocolate, as is most often the case with products like this, but unlike a lot of other brands, this one is actually pretty good!
I like this one so much that, even though I still have two bags of Biolent in my pantry, I'm always taking a Vital House bag when comes time to prepare my meals.
Another good thing is that it makes me feel full. For me it feels like having a real meal, I know I'll be okay until the next meal. I've tried other meal replacements that sometimes made me feel weird after a meal. Even Soylent sometimes made me feel weird back when it was available in Canada, but I've never had any problems with Vital House!
I'm really happy I found this product and I would definitely recommend it!
Oh, and the prices are really good! With my 3 bags per month subscription I don't have to pay for shipping, it comes out at only 2,63$ per meal!
Vital House - Balance
It's nothing phenomenal but it does the job if you want a quick meal replacement.
The taste is ok, not the best ive tried but definitely not a pain to consume.
